Using Virtual instruments with your Soundscape DAW

Since version 4.1, VST instrument plug-ins can be inserted directly in the Soundscape Mixer, just like VST effect plug-ins. A Mixpander is required to route the output of the virtual instruments (which run on the CPU of the host PC) to the Soundscape Mixer and the dll files for the VSTi plug-ins must be present in the Soundscape VST folder when the Editor starts is launched. VST instruments can be inserted at any point in the Mixer, just like other mixer elements.

Clicking a VSTi mixer element will open the user interface of the corresponding VST instrument in the usual way. Two pop-up menus at the top of the window allow a MIDI input port and MIDI channel to be selected for the input.

Note that stand-alone virtual instruments can also be used. The Mixpander’s “streaming inputs” are available to them, just as they are to all Windows audio programs. In the case of TASCAM’s Gigastudio, GSIF drivers are provided for the Mixpander.
