Soundscape Editor V5.1
Soundscape Editor V5.1 Presentation
Version 5.1 of the Soundscape Editor is a free update for all Soundscape users who own an Editor V5.x password.
Version 5.1 includes a number of enhancements, including "comfort features" (like the custom-coloured name fields for mixer strips) and important new functionalites, especially with regards to multichannel/surround work.
Custom-coloured mixer strip names
With enough DSP power to run huge mixers, you wanted to be able to identify single mixer strips or groups of mixer strips more quickly. Version 5.1 lets you choose a foreground and background colour for each mixer strip.
In this example, the electric piano uses a pink background while the percussion instruments share a yellow background with blue lettering and the drums use a blue background with black or red lettering. The drum reverb mixer strip alone uses a grey background with blue lettering. Soundscape has always let you organize your mixer exactly as you wanted it. Now it's also easier to navigate.

Multi-Channel Link Part tool

You are familiar with the Stereo-Link Part tool, which allows audio Parts to be linked as stereo pairs for editing in the Arrange window.
The new Multi-Channel Link Part tool operates in a similar way but allows any number of Parts to be linked. The Parts must be on adjacent virtual tracks and have the same length and time position.

Surround mixing features
Two new output types, "stereo to LRCS " and "stereo to 5.1", have been added to the list of available mixer elements. Additionally, the LRCS and 5.1 output panners includes new functionalities.

The divergence controls allow the sound to blend gradually between the front speakers (as if the front speakers were brought closer to each other), rear speakers (as if the rear speakers were brought closer to each other) or front and rear speakers (as if the all speakers were brought closer to each other).
The Center Speaker control allows center panned sound to be gradually spread across the left and right front speakers.
The LFE (dB) level control, for 5.1 outputs only, controls the level of the signal routed to the LFE channel (pre output fader). Clicking the "LFE dB" label will mute/unmute the LFE output channel.
Clicking a speaker icon mutes/unmutes the corresponding speaker output.
Right-clicking a speaker icon solos/unsolos the corresponding speaker output.
The output level for each speaker is displayed in dB.
For "Stereo to LRCS" and "Stereo to 5.1" outputs only:
- The panner features individual pan dots for the Left (white) and Right (red) inputs. These dots can be dragged across the sound field using the left and right mouse buttons respectively.
- Left (L) and Right (R) buttons (positioned above the X pan fader) can be used to link the X and Y pan faders to either pan dot.
- Four "L <-> R Pan Relation mode" buttons allow the pan dot positions to be controlled independently, or allow the dots to be linked so that their positions are mirrored horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
Multichannel features
For multichannel recording, 4, 6 and 8 channel record track blocks are now available in addition to mono and stereo record track blocks.
Multi-Channel speaker name extensions are introduced in addition to the L/R name extensions currently in use for Stereo-linked Parts/Takes.
These name extensions are depend on the status of the new "Multi-Channel speaker name extension" option under menu: Settings|Preferences|General:
- If "Surround" is selected, surround speaker name extensions "L, R, C, Cs, LFE, Ls, Rs, Lc, Rc" are appended to the names of 4 to 8 multichannel linked Parts/Takes that are recorded, imported or modified.
Surround formats currently recognized include:
- 4.0 (L, R, C, Cs) - 5.0 (L, R, C, Ls, Rs) - 5.1 (L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs) - 7.0 (L, R, C, Ls, Rs, Lc, Rc) - 7.1 (L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs, Lc, Rc)
- If "Numeric" is selected, speaker name extensions "1_x" up to "x_x" will be appended to the names of 4/6/8 multichannel linked Parts/Takes that are recorded, imported or modified.
The Mixdown tool can now simultaneously output up to 8 multichannel linked Parts.
Other new features:
Other Version 5.1 new features include:
- Support for bigger SDisks up to 1 TeraByte (for newly formatted disks only).
- A new "Shift entire Arrangement to compensate for maximum mixer delay" option for the Automatic Delay Compensation.
- And moreā¦
