What's new in V4.1
With VST plug-in support as its main feature, Version 4.0 of the Soundscape Editor was a giant leap towards complete integration between dedicated professional digital audio hardware and the native processing world. Version 4.1 is another major step forward for Soundscape DAW users. Building on the strength of Version 4.0, it introduces VSTi support and Automatic Delay Compensation, along with a number of refinements that will make your Soundscape experience even more productive, and even more enjoyable: Tempo Map support, a new “Cycle End Mode” for automation recording, and much more…
VSTi support:
It had to happen! Just like VST effects, VST instruments can now be inserted directly into the Soundscape Mixer. A pop-menu allows selection of a MIDI input for real-time performance, and the audio output can conveniently be recorded to a Soundscape audio track.

Automatic Delay Compensation (ADC):
While the processing delay of Soundscape format DSP-powered mixer elements is negligible in most cases (being comparable to that of digital hardware effects and processing units), the processing delay for VST plug-ins running on the PC’s CPU can amount to several thousands of samples, added to the streaming latency (roughly twice the buffer size). Therefore, compensating for these delays has become a necessity in order to avoid phase and synchronization problems at mixdown. V4.1 neatly solves this problem. As you would expect from the brains at Sydec, the Automatic Delay Compensation system is smart. It can operate purely in the Mixer, inserting delays automatically as required. Optionally, in order to be more DSP efficient, it also can shift audio Parts to create delays. And as always with Soundscape, you decide…

The ADC On/Off button is located at the bottom of the Mixer window, as shown here:

“Cycle End Mode” for automation recording:
As requested by some of our sound-to-picture users, this new automation recording mode allows you to adjust automatable settings (for instance EQ parameter values) while listening to a section of audio (which could be a loop between the Left and Right locators). When recording is stopped, the last values are copied to te beginning of the new automation Part.
Tempo Map support:
V4.1 allows a tempo map to be imported from a MIDI file. The Tempo and Time Signature of your Soundscape Arrangement change according to those of the reference MIDI file. The tempo changes are reflected in the Time Axis when musical time divisions are shown (B/C/T), and of course the Snap function can be used, taking the tempo changes into account where relevant.

Improved handling of stereo Part and Take names:
The Part Info window includes a new check box. If it is checked, when the name of an audio Part is edited, L and R extensions are automatically appended to the name of the left and right Parts of each selected stereo-linked pair. The change can also be applied to the Takes referenced by the selected Parts.
Other new features:
The list of new features also includes (non exhaustively) a Reverse Play mode, scrubbing during fast forward or rewind, faster startup times, and for Windows 2000/XP based systems, the possibility to run two Soundsape DAW units from a single PCI Host Interface card.
