Product details
Soundscape 32 connects to a front end Windows™ PC via a PCI or parallel interface for control from the powerful yet user-friendly Editor software, which provides over 60 editing tools and global functions, and the uniquely flexible, fully configurable Soundscape Mixer.
The Soundscape 32 hardware features independent on board audio recording and mixing engines based on Motorola Digital Signal Processors (DSP). A single, 19” 2U rack unit features 28 inputs and 32 outputs across three TDIF ports, one stereo AES-EBU input, two stereo AES-EBU outputs, two balanced analogue inputs and four balanced analogue outputs on XLR connectors, and has room for up to 548 GigaBytes of data storage across four IDE/EIDE hard disks (including two in removable caddies). It provides 32 tracks of 24-bit audio at up to 48kHz, or 16 tracks of 24-bit audio at up to 96kHz with single wire TDIF and AES-EBU connectivity. The level of performance is guaranteed, regardless of the PC’s specification, and regardless of how many effects plug ins are used, or how many other programs are running. Connections are provided as standard for WordClock and SuperClock, MIDI in, out and through.
Up to four Soundscape 32 units can be connected to the host PC and run from a single instance of the Soundscape Editor software, providing a staggering 128 audio tracks, 112 inputs, 128 outputs and up to 2.192 TeraBytes of data storage. Of course, these units can just as easily be run as separate systems when required. For instance, if your facility owns two Soundscape 32 units, one of them could be used for a mobile recording service when not required in the main studio.
Hardware options for the Soundscape 32 include:
- The Mixpander/5 and Mixpander/9 multi-DSP expansion cards, which fit into a PCI slot of the front end PC and connect to the Soundscape 32 unit’s expansion port. These cards add extra DSP power to the Soundscape mixer, making it a desirable replacement for external hardware mixers and effects/processing units. They also add 48 channels of audio streaming between the Soundscape 32 system and the PC, allowing close integration with the native world, the use of Direct X or VST plug-ins on Soundscape audio tracks to complement the high quality, Soundscape format mixer plug ins, and routing of PC audio (e.g., from a software sampler or audio sequencer) to the Soundscape Mixer. In multiple unit systems, several Mixpanders can be used at the same time.
- The Sync card, which adds LTC, VITC, BITC and 9-Pin functionality to the standard MIDI Time Code and MIDI Clock facilities. It also allows Master Clock synchronization to a Video Reference signal (e.g., video black burst).
- The Soundscape range of Input/Output boxes, including: iBox 2-Line, iBox 2-Mic, iBox 4-EAS, iBox 8-XLR/24, iBox 8-Line. A typical Soundscape 32 system can use any combination of iBoxes for compatibility with a wide range of formats. For instance, three iBox 8-XLR/24 interface units add 24 analogue inputs and outputs (for a total of 26 analogue inputs and 28 analogue outputs).
Developed and refined for over a decade by the Sydec Audio Engineering team with flexibility and ease of use as top priorities, the Soundscape Editor software is a user configurable, feature rich working environment which sets the reference for audio editing. If you are familiar with Windows and the basics of recording and editing digital audio, you could probably just set the system up and feel comfortable running a session within a couple of hours. However, beyond this immediate simplicity you will find a wealth of powerful timesaving features. For instance, the possibility to switch instantly between 24 different audio editing tools (predefined from over 45 available) without a single mouse click or using the computer keyboard! The software also includes essential features for post-production users and commercial facilities, such as full TCP/IP networking support, cue sheet printing and compatibility with virtually any hardware control surface via the Console Manager application.
Software options include the CDWriter program for Red Book CD Mastering, the EDL Processor for auto-conforming to edit decision lists, with support for video editing file formats (e.g. OMFi, Discreet, Lightworks…), and effects and processing plug ins from Sydec Audio Engineering, Cedar Audio, SynchroArts and other world renowned developers.
